FAQ

Questions from the gutter

Short answers to the things people ask right after they stop screaming.

Is this legal?

On your own property, it’s a yard decoration. Just don’t put it in a public or city storm drain, and never block the flow of water. Rules vary by city and HOA, so check yours. Read the fine print.

Will it fit my drain?

It’s sized for typical open-throat curb inlets, the long slot under the curb, which are usually about 5–6 in tall. It won’t work on a flat grate you’d walk over. Measure the opening first if you’re not sure.

Does it block the water?

It shouldn’t, and it mustn’t. The head sits near the front of the opening and the bottom stays clear. Pull it out before heavy rain. See How It Works.

Is it waterproof?

Yes. 4mm Coroplast is corrugated plastic, not cardboard, and the print is UV ink. Light rain is fine. Remove it for storms, and store it out of the sun between seasons.

Is it printed on both sides?

Yes, it’s double-sided, so it looks finished from the street and still looks good when you’re setting it up or storing it.

How big is it?

Roughly letter-page size. Each character page lists its size. Joe, for example, is about 8 × 9 in with tabs.

What does the QR code do?

It opens this website. That’s it: no tracking, no sign-up. More on the QR code.

How do I get one?

Everything is sold through our Etsy shop, Here’s Your Sign Company. Pricing, shipping and options live on the listings.

Can I get the ice cream cone?

Yes. Joe’s dripping ice cream cone is a separate cutout that stands next to him. See Joe’s page.

Is this political?

It’s satire, and it’s equal-opportunity. Everyone ends up in the drain eventually. Sewer Clowns aren’t affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by anyone depicted.

Is it OK for kids?

It’s a spooky decoration for an adult to set up. The faces are creepy on purpose, so use your judgment with little ones. And please, nobody climbs into a storm drain.

Can you make a custom face?

Maybe! Get in touch and tell us who belongs in your drain.
